An Interview with Mom

Ryan, what thoughts went through your mind as the world waited for Harold Camping's prediction to be proven true or false?

I didn't know wether this was true or not, but when I heard about his predicitions in the past I didn't worry much.

Who is Anne Sinclair? She's been in the news alot this past week.

So far, I know Anne Sinclair is Dominic Strauss-Khan's wife. He is a Frenchman, on trial in America right now.

Who played in the French Open game you watched yesterday?

Rafal Nadal played John Isner. Nadal played his best, but Isner was very good. Isner didn't have as much control on the ball. If Nadal was winning then Isner would look a bit sad and distract him, and then catch up with him again. It was a long game, and eventually Nadal won. It was quite exciting watching how people from different countries play tennis against each other.

How are your swimming lessons going?

Well, so far so good. Recently we've started doing our back strokes and practising floating on our backs (which was quite fun!). We got a very nice, young coach, she's much better than my football coach!

So what is happening on the football front?

Right now, this season has finished. I might not go back in September, I might try out some tennis. I'm still thinking about it. Up on the pitch they've put down some pellets and are going to put some top-soil on the grass.

And next week is your last week at Discoveries?

Yup, next week is our last week at Discoveries but we are having a Variety Evening/Talent Evening on Friday 3 June. Jed and I are doing a play called 'The Kingdom'. Jed is the Aide to the King and I am Mister Ruler, the Teacher. I am also going to 'Football Tricks' with my friend, Mario.  Next Monday we have rehersals for the Talent Evening.

What is your 'song of the week'?

Gummy Bear 'Go for the ball' and 'Its our turn now' by Carmen.

My week

SUNDAY

We had a BBQ at church. After church my brother, Jed, and I went to Isaac's house. At his house we played Mario Kart on the Wii. After a while Isaac and I played Fifa 11 and he beat me: Arsenal vs Madrid, 7-0! We played some football outside and after 10 minutes my Dad came to fetch us.

MONDAY

In the morning we started school, as usual. Sheila called my Mom later in the morning and asked if she could look after Lukas and Helen while she took Jacob to the hospital. They also stayed for lunch. (Jacob had fallen at an Antidote rehearsal. He is acting in a play called 'Sparkle Shark' this Sunday. He hurt his foot and it had gotten worse so they decided to have it checked out at the hospital).

About 10 minutes after lunch we rode to swimming lessons on our bikes (we started riding to swimming lessons recently). When we got there we met our friends, Anna and her two daughters, Kiarra and Sofia. They also come to swimming lessons at the same time as us. We got to lessons on Mondays and Thursdays from 2 to 2:45pm. On the first day of swimming lessons we had a young lady teacher. But on the second day we got an older lady - she calls Jed 'Jade'! Recently we've been learning how to do strokes, float on our stomachs and float on our backs. We've only recently started doing backstrokes. My favourite part of the lessons is when we do breathing practice. This is when we push ourselves up out of the water and then push ourselves down under the water ten times.

Doing the kicking exercise with a board

On Tuesday one of our team mates moved into an older group. So now we have mostly younger girls in our group. Here is a photo of Jed and I talking to John while we were waiting for our coach to catch up with us.

John, Jed and I chatting

After swimming lessons Jed and I go to Discoveries (this is a junior youth club). We pay 2 Euros a week to go on Mondays from 4 o'clock to 5:30pm. On the 3rd of June we are going to have a talent night. Jed and I are part of the drama group who are going to do a play called 'The Kingdom'. I am playing the 'prison guard' and 'Mr Twig' the teacher. Jed is playing the 'Aid to the King'. I haven't had many lines so Karen, our teacher, is going to give me some more lines. Jed and I are also going to do a skit with our friends Jacob and Lukas called 'Goldilocks and the 3 bears' (not the original).

TUESDAY

At 3o'clock, till 4:30pm, I go to football practice at the AEK club. My position is 'goalkeeper' and in the matches, if we don't have the older goalkeeper coming, I get put on the field first. Our 2nd goal keeper is Andreas, and he thinks he's the best goalkeeper. I agree, he was better than me, because at practice on Tuesday none of the shots went past him (only penalties were scored past him!). I am improving in diving and in my saving. In the shooting practice nothing went past me this Tuesday.

WEDNESDAY

On Wednesday there was some red sand hanging in the air below the clouds. This sand comes from Egypt and the Sahara. When it rained it was really dirty! My Dad's car, when he came back from work, was very muddy. We went to Jacob and Lukas's house in the afternoon. On the way, we drove past the stadium and we remembered that it was the Cyprus Cup Final football match. Omonoia was playing against Apollon at the GSZ stadium up the road. In the first few minutes of the match Omonoia scored a goal, making it 1-0. In the final minutes of the game Apollon scored an equaliser. 1-1! They went deep into extra time but the score was still 1-1.  They then went into penalty shoot-outs and Omonoia won 4-3. The goalkeeper was 'man of the match'. There were fireworks, which sounded like bombs. They were beautiful. The kids in the neighbourhood were singing 'Omonoia, Omonoia, Omonoia' and it was difficult to go to sleep because of the people driving through our neighbourhood and hooting.

THURSDAY

Today is Thursday. We've been learning about area and perimeter in math this week. Today we're subtracting area to solve problems. This afternoon Jed, Ethan and I have swimming lessons again. After swimming lessons Kiarra and Sofia are coming to our house.

Tomorrow is football again. Hopefully there will be a match on Saturday. Our season is finishing at the end of the month.
